CULTURAL EDUCATION

‘Bharata’

The college is named after the great sage Bharata, the author of the Natyashastra, the most revered Sanskrit treatise on Indian dance and dramaturgy written over two millenniums ago.

The word ‘Bharata’ is a union of three elements –

Bha (bhava, the feeling) + Ra (raga, the melody) + Ta (tala, the rhythm).

An institution pioneering in approaching Indian classical dance as a performing and pedagogical art form, at
Bharata College of Fine Arts & Culture, we aim to inspire students to be consummate artists, insightful researchers and sensitive performers and creators. Here, you can simply pursue your passion or make your passion your profession by immersing in the dynamic course-study amalgamating Shastra (theory) and Sampradaya (practice).

This includes learning traditional repertoire, dance performance – body movement and facial expressions, technique, choreography, yoga, anatomy and body-toning, music and rhythm together with research-oriented studies from invaluable and rare Sanskrit treatises, Vedas, Upavedas, Puranas, Upanishads and the Epics, Sanskrit literature, Indian aesthetics, values and cultural history along with allied arts.

We believe in forming a firm foundation in our traditional roots for artists to branch out as creative thinkers and innovative practitioners.
